VR Wizard Duel
VR Wizard Duel was an ambitious project a group of students and I attempted at SCAD.
The goal was to create a 1v1 Wizard Duel using a pair of Oculus Rifts and touch controllers. Although we never got the multiplayer working, we made a pretty fun prototype.
In VR Wizard Duel, players held down one button to project a "Spell Grid" in front of them. Then, using the Oculus Rift's touch controllers, players would connect nodes on the Spell Grid to create "Glyphs." When you released the button, you would cast a spell based on the glyph you drew. The most complex spells required drawing with both hands at once.
The spells were based on the "tactical wheel" of fencing - simple attacks, parry-ripostes, compound attacks, and counterattacks. Defeating your opponent would require anticipating the spell they were trying to cast and choosing the most ideal response.
VR Wizard Duel was made during my last two quarters at SCAD - January 2017 through June 2017. It started with a team of myself and two other students. The second quarter, four more students joined the team. We didn't ever figure out how to get multiplayer working with two Oculus Rifts, but we did get the Spell Grid mechanic working in Unity 5 and Unreal 4, and that was a ton of fun.
